Forestry | Photo-interpretation
We understand the key role
inventory data plays in forest management
planning, and work with the customer at every
step of the process.
Our team of expert photo interpreters
specialises in vegetation and ecological
inventory, using any combination of
traditional (steroscope) and digital (DVP,
PurVIEW) stereo imaging technology.
Services
- Ecological and vegetation
inventory
including current
vegetation, site potential, slope,
deposits, drainage, stand dynamics and
wildlife habitat
- Identification of operationnal
constraints
such as slope, rocky
outcrops, poor drainage and sensitive
areas
- Analysis of site potential
site class, wildlife habitat, exceptionnal
areas, maple syrup production potential and
tourism
- Road planning
including
right-of-way location, final layout, site
supervision, cut-and-fill planning,
optimisation of block road layout (taking
into account available timber and skidding
distance)
- Sylviculture planning
including areas to be treated, as a function
of stand ecology
- Refinement of existing photo
interpretation
by sub-division of
stands (0.5 ha resolution possible)
improves opertional planning and
significantly reduces the need for
operational inventory.

Recent projects
- Pre-commercial thinning planning
using refinement of existing
photo-interpretation, leading to an 80% reduction in operational inventory cost
- Geomorphological analysis of road
location alternatives saved tens of
thousands of dollars in reduced gravel
hauling cost during road construction
- Refinement of MRNF 1:20000
photo-interpretation using
stereoscopic 3D monitors improved spatial
resolution and enhanced inventory data
with information on canopy structure,
species composition, stand density and
operational constraints
